Professor Chin-Tsan Wang, Distinguished Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Electromechanical Engineering at National Ilan University, Director of the Space Computing Technology Center, and former Director of the Science and Technology Division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India, together with Professor Che-Huan Chang of Ming Chi University of Technology, visited the United States from August 30 to September 6. Their itinerary covered New York and the greater Washington, D.C. area. With the support and arrangements of the Science and Technology Division in Washington, D.C., the two professors focused on scientific cooperation, academic exchange, and cultural exploration, yielding fruitful results.
During the visit, they met with scholars at Yale University, The Catholic University of America, the University of Maryland, and Virginia Tech, engaging in in-depth discussions on topics such as energy storage, big data analysis, and medical imaging to explore future opportunities for collaboration. They also paid courtesy visits to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States, further strengthening the foundation for Taiwan-U.S. cooperation in technological development and overseas community engagement.
On September 6, drawing on his extensive background in academia and science diplomacy, Professor Wang delivered a keynote lecture titled “The Current Status and Future of Taiwan’s Net-Zero Carbon Emissions” at the Overseas Community Affairs Council Education Center. He analyzed Taiwan’s sustainable development strategies and shared the potential of integrating edge computing and drone technology into smart energy management and environmental monitoring. His talk attracted great interest and enthusiastic responses from the Taiwanese expatriate community.
This Taiwan-U.S. academic exchange not only promotes collaboration in cutting-edge scientific fields but also helps National Ilan University and Taiwan’s higher education institutions strengthen research connections and enhance their international influence with top U.S. universities, laying a solid foundation for future cross-border cooperation.
